Apple Google Federal Trade Commission Investigation

Posted in Technology - 06 May 2009 - By Jiba (4488 Views)

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is apparently looking into the ties between the boards of Apple and Google due to a possible breach of anti-trust laws.

Currently, Eric Schmidt is the CEO of Google and is also a director for Apple, and Arthur Levinson is a director on both companies.

As the two companies are technically rivals (browsers and phone operating systems) this is a breach of The Clayton Anti-trust Act of 1941.

I've thought for a long time now that these two companies had a somewhat suspect relationship. Good to see it is being investigated.

Good call! But I believe in America you only get help from the government if you're failing by your own poor decision making. See Apple and Google are prospering there fore the government maybe do what ever they can to stop that. WE ARE THE UNITED STATES OF SELF DESTRUCTION!!!! God Bless America, we need it!

But, surely if Apple and Google are in cahoots then their monopolist (is that the right word??) position could easily push other competitors out the market and inturn effect the economy?

Yes, lets let the government step in and tell two of the most successful companies in history how they should do business. I mean especially since it has done such a great job running this country.

Maybe Bill is upset he isn't involved with Windoze 7 coming out soon.

Now if the government gets involved, I wonder how much bailout funds will go to Apple/Google, since their stocks will take a dump.

Why penalize companies that survive... because they're violating laws in place to direct growth equitably! But maybe you're right, let's just suspend those laws, considering they don't seem to matter much to big business anyhow.

I love how when it's Google and Apple everyone gets all up in arms that the government should just let successful companies be, but when it's Microsoft they're a big bad evil corporation that needs to be stopped. No matter what you believe about government interfering in business, would you at least be consistent?

Excellent point Tommy but understand that Fanboys are an emotional lot. Otherwise, they would use PC's instead of overpaying for a Mac or any other overpriced product Apple sells. Fanboys, try to get in touch with the left side of your brain. I know it is difficult but I wish you luck.
